Kindergarten Hölzli
In the new Kindergarten Hölzli, designed by Swiss practice BGK Architekten, architecture becomes a tool for welcoming, learning and discovery. The building has been conceived entirely around the needs of children, where bright interiors, natural materials and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape create an environment that supports both education and wellbeing. The generous central space, the heart of the kindergarten, opens towards nature through large glazed surfaces that strengthen the relationship between indoors and outdoors. Here, light plays a fundamental role: more than a functional element, it contributes to a calm and reassuring atmosphere, helping to shape spaces where children can feel comfortable, protected and free to explore. The entire project is guided by the idea of care. Every environment encourages orientation, interaction and a sense of belonging, offering a balanced setting where everyday experiences become opportunities for growth. Within this context, light becomes an integral part of the architecture, enhancing the simplicity of materials and the quality of space while supporting the activities that animate the building each day.
Architecture and light for children's well-being
To reflect the welcoming character of the project, the lighting design focuses on solutions that engage with the architecture through simple forms and a gentle visual presence.
Oh! pendant luminaires become the defining feature of the communal spaces. Their pure spherical shape evokes a playful and familiar imagery, perfectly suited to an environment dedicated to children. Floating above the rooms like luminous balloons, they diffuse a soft and uniform light that enhances comfort and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere.
In circulation and functional areas, Tu-top provides a discreet yet coherent lighting presence, integrating naturally into the architectural language of the building and contributing to a visually ordered environment.
Completing the lighting scheme, Rollip Pro accompanies corridors and service areas with precise, balanced illumination, reinforcing the clean aesthetic of the interiors while ensuring visual comfort throughout the kindergarten.
Together, these solutions help create an educational environment where architecture and light work in harmony to promote wellbeing, orientation and a positive spatial experience for children and educators alike.
