Cathedral of St Peter the Apostle
The lighting project for the Cathedral of St Peter the Apostle in Treviso focused in particular on Titian's magnificent Annunciation, located in the chapel, also frescoed by Pordenone, on the vestibule and on the paintings on display.
Thanks to their precise lighting and adaptability, our Navata_Optus and Archicove products proved to be the perfect choice to enhance both the main work and the side niches.
Hi-res images
The objective of the lighting project, initiated by the Treviso Rotary Club and supervised by Studio Tecnico Ing. Carlo Chiodin and Arch. Alessandro Chiodin, was to create a true experience, a path of light that right from the entrance (the Malchiostro Chapel is located in front of the side entrance to the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, better known as the Cathedral of Treviso) would emphasise Titian's Annunciation, the chapel where it is located - splendidly frescoed by Pordenone, the vestibule and the paintings on display.
Having defined the lighting of the altarpiece (described above), at the same time the best way to enhance the architecture and artistic heritage of the entire chapel was studied. The large lateral frescoes are emphasised by the crossed beams of the Navata_Optus projectors placed above the cornice. The niches on the sides of the altarpiece, frescoed with the full figures of Saints Peter and Paul, reveal a lighting inspired by the depictions themselves: the Saints, in fact, cast a shadow behind them that the grazing light of the Archicove linear bars helps to ‘justify’. Indirect lighting of the apse is provided by linear bars inserted in the cornices. The lighting design also involved the vestibule. The cross vaults, illuminated by linear bars, can be seen from the side entrance of the cathedral and invite the visitor to head towards this wonderful glimpse of art. Each of the oil paintings displayed on the sides of the vestibule is illuminated with a dedicated Navata_Optus projector, placed on the opposite cornice, never in front of, but shifted to the side with respect to the work, so as not to annoy the visitor (who normally stands in front of the painting) with an unsightly reflection caused by the illuminated oil painting.
Navata_Optus
By drawing attention to Titian's Malchiostro's Annunciation, Navata_Optus allows the main work inside the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, in Treviso, to be enhanced while respecting the context thanks to its small size. Discreet and flexible, with stable aiming and a wide optical beam, Navata_Optus lends itself perfectly to illuminating the paintings, enticing visitors to reach them.
